Dubai Civil Defence Innovative Program Aims to Combat Carbon Emissions

Dubai Civil Defence has launched an environmental preparation programme, complete with a globe map depicting carbon emissions from fires.

Dubai Civil Defence has introduced an environmental readiness program with a world map showcasing the carbon emissions from fire incidents.

This unique feature visualizes the environmental impact of fires, including their contribution to climate change, harm to wildlife, air quality deterioration, and associated economic costs.

Pioneering Environmental Readiness:

During her visit to the Civil Defence Readiness Room in Dubai, Mariam Almheiri, UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment, praised this groundbreaking initiative, highlighting its status as the first of its kind in the region.

She emphasized the importance of analyzing the causes of fires globally and identifying opportunities to prevent them and reduce carbon emissions.

The Dubai Civil Defence has set an ambitious goal to reduce carbon emissions from fires in the emirate by 80 percent by the year 2050, aligning with the UAE’s Net Zero pathway.

A Global Platform for Fire Incident Data:

This innovative program is a centralized global platform for collecting and analyzing fire incident data involving the world’s largest firefighting organizations.

It categorizes data and carbon percentages by continent, providing crucial information to firefighting authorities worldwide.

Predictive Measures to Reduce Emissions:

The program’s predictive capabilities enable the implementation of preventative measures, ultimately reducing carbon emissions from fires.

This proactive approach enhances firefighting efforts and minimizes the environmental impact of fire incidents.

AI-Powered Readiness Room:

In May, Lt-Gen Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, inaugurated an artificial intelligence-powered readiness room as part of this initiative.

This advanced hub utilizes virtual officers proficient in multiple languages to disseminate awareness messages to millions of people.

Data-Driven Preventive Measures:

The AI-powered hub leverages heat maps to identify areas in Dubai with a history of fires, facilitating the implementation of preventive measures.

It also analyzes events involving firecrackers and lights, sending awareness messages to residents to help prevent incidents.

Dubai Civil Defence’s forward-thinking environmental readiness program not only aims to combat carbon emissions from fires but also exemplifies the UAE’s commitment to environmental sustainability and proactive measures to protect the planet.
