UAE’s 2023 Milestones: A Year of Transformative Achievements

At the start of 2023, the UAE introduced an unemployment insurance scheme for public and private sector employees, offering a vital safety net by providing financial support for up to three months in case of unexpected job loss.

Environmental Initiatives: 

Ajman and Umm Al Quwain made a significant move by banning single-use plastics and implementing a charge of 25 fils per plastic bag to combat environmental pollution.

Stellar Space Missions: 

UAE marked historic moments in space exploration as Emirati astronaut Sultan AlNeyadi embarked on a six-month mission to the International Space Station with the SpaceX Crew-6 mission. At the same time, the Arab world’s first lunar rover, Rashid, faced challenges during a hard landing on the moon.

Pioneering Spacewalk and Financial Solutions:

Emirati astronaut Sultan AlNeyadi made history by completing the first Arab spacewalk outside the ISS. In contrast, National Bonds introduced the ‘Second Salary’ savings plan, offering supplementary income and long-term retirement options.

Emiratisation Expansion and Climate Summit:

The UAE broadened Emiratisation targets to include smaller firms. It hosted COP28, a monumental UN climate summit that drew 180 heads of state and gathered thousands to address climate change and sustainability concerns.

Regulation of Private Tuition:

In December, the UAE legalized private tuition with specific permits required, allowing registered teachers, students, and unemployed individuals to provide private lessons while imposing penalties for unlicensed tutoring.
