United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland to host Euro 2028

Uefa has announced that the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland will host the 2028 Euro.
Unopposed Joint Bid Success
The joint bid by the UK and Ireland for hosting Euro 2028 emerged victorious without any competition, following Turkey’s decision to withdraw and concentrate on a joint bid with Italy for Euro 2032. This decision was confirmed during a meeting held in Switzerland.
Focus Shifts from 2030 World Cup to Euro 2028
The UK and Ireland, in collaboration with UEFA, shifted their focus from vying to be Europe’s preferred candidate for the 2030 FIFA World Cup to securing the hosting rights for Euro 2028.
Previous Euro 2020 Hosts Eager to Participate
The successful Euro 2020 hosts, Wembley Stadium in London and Hampden Park in Glasgow, are anticipated to be prominent venues for Euro 2028.
The Football Association of Wales expressed its desire to host the opening match at the national stadium in Cardiff, though the ultimate decision rests with UEFA.
“We’re excited,” said Noel Mooney, Chief Executive of the Football Association of Wales, as he shared his enthusiasm about the prospect of bringing this prestigious tournament to Wales, emphasizing Cardiff’s suitability for the opener.
