Amid escalating tensions in the region, the UK Prime Minister engaged in diplomatic efforts to ease the situation and provide aid to Gaza. 

A critical aspect of this diplomatic endeavor involved working with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Chancellor’s Visit to Riyadh

Rishi Sunak, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, undertook a two-day trip to several capitals in the region, including a visit to Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. 

During this visit, discussions revolved around avoiding further escalation and providing much-needed aid to Gaza.

Support for Israel and Tensions in the Region

Prior to his diplomatic engagement with Saudi Arabia, Sunak pledged support for Israel during a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. 

This commitment comes amid heightened tensions and preparations for a ground invasion by Israel into Gaza, triggered by a deadly Hamas attack on October 7th.

Stand Against Hamas

During a joint press conference with Prime Minister Netanyahu, Rishi Sunak expressed his pride in supporting Israel in what he referred to as a “long war” against Hamas, which he characterized as “pure evil.” 

This diplomatic flurry underscores the UK’s role in mediating regional conflicts and providing humanitarian aid to areas affected by the ongoing turmoil.
