Friday, December 1st, celebrates the beginning of meteorological winter; the next few days and evenings may turn even colder.

The recent temperature drops have brought chilling conditions across various regions in the UK. The mercury plunged to -7.1C at Benson in Oxfordshire and -7.7C at Shap in Cumbria on November 25th.

Subsequently, -7.2C was recorded at Bridgefoot in Cumbria on Wednesday, followed by a drop to -6.6C at Santon Downham in Suffolk on Thursday.

Forecasted Cold Spell

Friday night is expected to be the coldest period, with temperatures throughout the United Kingdom ranging typically between -4C to -6C. However, in Scotland, temperatures could plummet to -8C or even lower on both Friday and Saturday nights.

The combination of prolonged nighttime hours, clear skies, and limited air movement creates an environment conducive to further temperature drops. Individuals in affected areas should prepare for these cold conditions and take necessary precautions to stay warm and safe.
