UAE Unveils AI Empowerment Initiative to Reskill and Retire Workforce

On Wednesday, the UAE launched a new project to prepare the workforce for advances in artificial intelligence (AI).

A new initiative was unveiled on Wednesday in the UAE to empower the workforce to adapt to artificial intelligence (AI) advancements.

The initiative focuses on reskilling, retooling, and offering early retirement options for employees in the UAE.

Omar Sultan Al Olama, the Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, announced this during the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Annual Meeting of the Global Future Councils 2023.

The initiative’s primary objective is to prepare and retool employees who AI may augment. The intent is to equip them with the skills to effectively utilize AI tools in their roles.

Early Retirement Option:

For individuals nearing retirement and not inclined to retool, the initiative offers an early retirement option.

For job classes that face complete displacement due to AI, government programs will focus on completely reskilling these individuals for new job classes that are not at risk of being displaced.

Implementation Details:

The specific details regarding when and how the program will be implemented were not immediately disclosed.

During the WEF’s Annual Meeting session, various topics were discussed, including challenges related to sustainable development, women empowerment, data equity, and the interconnectedness of climate and human development.

Speakers emphasized the interdependence of climate and human development, noting that progress in one area should not come at the expense of another.

Addressing Climate Challenges and Social Equity:

It was underscored that addressing climate challenges must go hand-in-hand with addressing social and equity concerns. This approach was deemed essential to effectively address the climate challenge.

Data equity was also highlighted as a response to social challenges, ensuring that technology maintains a human-centered focus.

Empowering Women in AI:

The importance of empowering women in future-oriented fields, such as AI, was discussed. The broken care structure in many countries was acknowledged as a barrier to women’s participation in these fields.

Global Future Councils Meeting:

The Global Future Councils 2023 Annual Meeting was held in Dubai from October 16 to 18.

The event brought together 600 experts from various sectors, including academia, government, international organizations, business, and civil society, representing the 30 members of the Global Future Councils.
