Abu Dhabi resident G Sahany and his family, excited for holidays in Kolkata, experience a sense of déjà vu as COVID precautions, including masks and sanitizers, are widespread. Sahany emphasizes the importance of safety measures and preparedness, given the resurgence of the virus.

The emergence of the Omicron JN.1 variant raises global concerns, prompting the Karnataka government in India to make face masks mandatory for vulnerable groups.

Residents, including those traveling for winter holidays, are urged to stay vigilant, especially in areas where the new variant has been detected.

Doctors’ Recommendations for Travelers:

As residents fly out for holidays, doctors stress the importance of standard preventive measures, including hand hygiene and mask-wearing.

Individuals managing chronic conditions are advised to control health factors pre-travel. Allergy-prone individuals should proactively address symptoms to mitigate risks during the trip.

Staying updated on guidelines and covering the mouth when coughing or sneezing are crucial. Isolation is recommended for individuals exhibiting symptoms, and testing is advised. Even in the absence of symptoms, isolation is necessary, with close monitoring for any signs of illness.
