UAE Embassy Warns Citizens Amid Ongoing Philippine Earthquake Aftershocks

The UAE embassy in Manila has issued a warning to its people as aftershocks continue in the Philippines' southern region.

The UAE embassy in Manila has warned its citizens as aftershocks persist in the southern region of the Philippines.

This comes in the aftermath of a powerful earthquake that struck late Saturday, followed by a magnitude 6.6 earthquake on Sunday, according to the US Geological Survey.

Heightened Concerns After Deadly Quake and Tsunami Alert:

A day before the latest seismic activity, a more potent earthquake had struck the same region, claiming two lives and prompting a tsunami alert. 

The recent earthquake, along with several strong aftershocks since late Saturday, occurred at approximately 6:36 pm (1036 GMT) at a depth of 56 kilometers northeast of Hinatuan municipality on Mindanao island.

Residents Urged to Exercise Caution and Follow Safety Measures:

In response to the seismic events, the UAE mission advises all citizens in the southern Philippines to exercise caution and adhere to guidelines issued by the embassy and local Philippine authorities. 

Authorities urge citizens to remain vigilant due to the ongoing earthquake and aftershocks.

The mission emphasizes the importance of following safety instructions and has provided emergency contact numbers for citizens to reach out in case of need: 0097180024 or 0097180044444. Additionally, individuals are encouraged to register for the Tawajodi service.

Casualties Reported and Ongoing Aftershocks:

Tragically, at least two people lost their lives, and several others sustained injuries following the initial quake. 

The USGS reports five major aftershocks exceeding magnitudes of 6.0 through Sunday, adding to the region’s challenges.

Saturday’s earthquake triggered tsunami warnings across the Pacific region. 

Along the east coast of Mindanao, residents fled buildings, hospitals were evacuated, and people sought higher ground in response to the seismic activity.
