UAE Calls for Immediate Protection of Civilians and End to Violence

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a statement urgently calling for the protection of civilians in the ongoing conflict and emphasizing that the immediate priority is to end the violence and safeguard the civilian population.

The Ministry strongly condemns the attacks by Hamas on Israeli towns and villages near the Gaza Strip, including the firing of thousands of rockets at populated areas. It considers these actions a grave and serious escalation.

Concern for Abducted Israeli Civilians:

The UAE expresses deep concern over reports of Israeli civilians being abducted as hostages from their homes. 

The Ministry underscores the fundamental principle that civilians on both sides should be fully protected under international humanitarian law and should never be targeted during conflicts.

Condolences and Diplomatic Efforts:

The UAE offers its condolences to the victims’ families and urges all diplomatic efforts to prevent a broader regional confrontation.

The Ministry mourns the loss of lives on both the Israeli and Palestinian sides due to the outbreak of violence. 

It calls on both parties to de-escalate tensions and avoid further escalation that could lead to tragic consequences affecting civilians and infrastructure.

Need for International Cooperation:

The UAE emphasizes the importance of international cooperation to prevent the violence from causing wider instability and spillover, including the involvement of other groups.

The UAE reaffirms its commitment to regional dialogue, cooperation, and co-existence efforts. 

It calls on the international community not to allow destructive actions to disrupt a region that has already endured enough conflict and suffering.

Pursuit of Peace and Dignity:

The Ministry stresses that the UAE remains in close contact with regional and international partners to swiftly de-escalate the situation, restore calm in Israel and the OPT (Occupied Palestinian Territories), and facilitate a return to negotiations for a final settlement within the framework of the two-state solution. The goal is to ensure that Palestinians and Israelis live peacefully and in dignity.
