UAE Asian Games Jiu Jitsu Contingent Receives Hero’s Welcome

Tears of joy, flower garlands, and proud family members awaited the UAE’s Asian Games Jiu Jitsu team as they returned home to a hero’s welcome on Sunday.
The team’s remarkable performance included five gold, five silver, and nine bronze medals, securing the top position on the medal tally. The UAE’s showing at this quadrennial continental sporting event was its most successful date.
Heartwarming Scenes at Dubai Airport:
Upon their arrival at Terminal 3 of Dubai International Airport, the team members were all smiles and embraced by their loved ones.
Notably, Asma Al Hosani, who made history by winning the UAE’s first gold medal in martial arts at the Asian Games, was greeted by her family, who had driven from Abu Dhabi bearing flowers and garlands.
Asma’s sister, Mira, expressed pride in her achievements, emphasizing the hard work and dedication that led to her historic win. Mira, a 16-year-old Jiu-Jitsu athlete, aspires to compete with her sister in future Asian Games.
UAE Dominance in Jiu-Jitsu:
The UAE team clinched an impressive four out of the eight gold medals in Jiu Jitsu. Mohamed Al Marzooqi, representing the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, lauded the team’s dedication and determination, emphasizing the importance of their will to succeed.
Gold medalist Shamma AlKalbani shared the thrill of her victory, recalling a dramatic turnaround in her match during the last 30 seconds.
Her perseverance paid off, earning her six crucial points and securing the win. She expressed her shock and delight upon realizing her victory.
Sportsmanship and Friendship:
Khalid Al Shehhi, another gold medalist, reflected on his first representation of the UAE at the Asian Games.
He emphasized the camaraderie and friendship he shares with his compatriot and opponent Khalid Al Blooshi, highlighting their dedication to giving their best on the mat.
