Tentative Agreement: Hostage Release in Gaza Brings Temporary Ceasefire

Israel, the United States, and Hamas have reportedly reached a tentative agreement to secure the release of dozens of women and children held as hostages in Gaza. 

The Washington Post disclosed this development, citing sources familiar with the deal, marking a potential breakthrough in the ongoing crisis.

Details of the Agreement:

The reported six-page agreement entails temporarily cessation of hostilities for at least five days. During this period, an initial group of 50 or more hostages is set to be released in smaller batches every 24 hours. 

This initiative follows the hostage-taking incident by Hamas on October 7, which resulted in approximately 240 captives and claimed 1,200 lives.

The agreement includes provisions for overhead surveillance to monitor ground movements, ensuring compliance with the temporary ceasefire. 

Additionally, the pause in fighting aims to facilitate the entry of significant humanitarian aid into the region.
