The Terrifying Ordeal:

Nesreen Al Muqayed, a Palestinian mother of four, recounts the horrifying night when an Israeli airstrike left her paralyzed by shrapnel. As she and her children slept, a rocket slammed into their Gaza home, disrupting their peaceful slumber with screams and chaos.

Shattered Peace:

Startled awake by her children’s cries warning of an approaching missile, Nesreen faced the nightmare head-on. Shrapnel flew through the air, tragically striking her head, penetrating her skull, and lodging itself in her spinal cord. 

Her eldest son, Firas, witnessed the missile piercing through his window and hitting the wall of his mother’s room.

A Traumatic Moment:

Recalling the fateful moment, Nesreen vividly remembers the urgency in her children’s voices, urging everyone to seek shelter. As she opened her eyes, she was met with flying shrapnel that abruptly altered the course of her life.

Early Weeks of Conflict:

The incident occurred in the initial stages of the conflict when Gaza’s healthcare system hadn’t yet faced the severe toll of continuous bombardment. An ambulance swiftly arrived, offering a glimmer of hope in a time when healthcare facilities were still operational.

Reflecting on Devastation:

Nesreen’s heart aches for the current state of Gaza, contrasting the past when hospitals functioned, and life held some semblance of normalcy. Today, she mourns the loss of lives and essential services like hospitals and ambulances, turning the region into a landscape of devastation and despair.
