RTA Unveils Innovative Smart Gate for Ticketless Public Transport Payments

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has introduced a groundbreaking smart gate for public transport, allowing commuters to pay fares for Dubai Metro, trams, buses, taxis, and marine transport without conventional tickets, Nol cards, or credit cards.
Facial Recognition Technology:
The smart gate employs advanced facial recognition technology. Commuters need to register initially, after which the system uses a 3D camera to analyze their facial features. Their bio-data is verified, and fares are automatically deducted from their accounts.
The RTA plans to showcase various smart projects at Gitex Global, the world’s largest technology and startup exhibition. These projects demonstrate Dubai’s commitment to technological innovation.
Digital Vehicle Plate Ownership Transfer:
The RTA will introduce a service for transferring vehicle number plate ownership via its Dubai Drive app.
Customers can digitally complete the transaction using ‘UAE PASS’ to verify and sign the sale contract.
AI-Powered Parking Occupancy Predictions:
The RTA will predict parking occupancy using artificial intelligence (AI) and big data. The AI model analyzes millions of parking reservation transactions and inspection data, providing motorists with parking occupancy rates in advance.
The RTA will display a model of the world’s first 3D-printed abra, a traditional boat with modern features accommodating 20 passengers.
The RTA has revamped its app focusing on user interface enhancements, incorporating data and AI technologies to enhance user experience.
RTA’s Commitment to Technological Advancements:
Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at the RTA, emphasized the authority’s commitment to leveraging emerging technologies and AI to improve productivity, operational efficiency, and customer services.
Dubai’s RTA continues to push the boundaries of innovation to enhance the travel experience for its residents and visitors.
