Sergio Ramos Hits Landmark Goal

Sergio Ramos etched his name in Champions League history by scoring the 10,000th goal of the competition, heading in Ivan Rakitic’s delivery at Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. His tally now stands at an impressive 16 goals in this prestigious tournament.

Historical Significance and Milestones

Daniel Amokachi, the former Everton forward, secured the first-ever Champions League goal in 1992, representing Club Bruges.

Ramos, on the other hand, scored his inaugural Champions League goal for Real Madrid back in December 2005, marking an astonishing 6,773 days between his first and most recent goal, the lengthiest span for any player in the competition.

Age Records and Notable Achievements

At 37 years old, Ramos ranks as the fourth oldest scorer in the Champions League. His former Real Madrid teammate Pepe, aged 40, holds the top position in this category.

Furthermore, Sevilla’s manager Diego Alonso assembled the oldest starting lineup in Champions League history, boasting an average age of 32 years and 19 days, surpassing Inter Milan’s record set in February 2012.

Sevilla initially appeared poised for victory, a result that would secure Arsenal’s progression to the last-16, after Youssef En Nesyri extended their lead following Ramos’ goal. However, Ismael Saibari’s strike and a Nemanja Gudelj own goal leveled the score at 2-2 with merely nine minutes remaining.
