Prison riot erupts at Tacumbú jail in Asunción, Paraguay 

At least ten wardens are being held hostage by prisoners at Paraguay’s largest jail, police in the South American nation have confirmed.

In a disturbing turn of events, a riot broke out at the Tacumbú jail in the capital city of Asunción. The situation quickly escalated as prisoners took to the roof of the facility, hurling stones at law enforcement officers attempting to regain control.

The Rotela Clan’s Role

The prison director, Luis Esquivel, identified the instigators of this unrest as members of a prison gang known as the “Rotela Clan.” Their actions have resulted in a volatile and dangerous situation within the prison.

Hostages in Uncertainty

The exact number of guards held hostage remains unclear, adding to the tension of the situation. While a police spokesman initially reported “at least 10” guards held captive, the latest information from a video call with Director Luis Esquivel suggests that a more substantial number, 21 guards, are still being detained by the rioters.
