Over One Million Flee Gaza Amid Israeli Bombardment and Ground Invasion

In response to Israel’s relentless bombardment of the Gaza Strip and preparations for a ground invasion, more than one million people have fled their homes in Gaza. 

Chaos and despair have gripped the region as civilians seek shelter wherever possible, including on the streets and in UN-run schools.

Deadly Escalation of Violence:

Israel declared war on Hamas after fighters from the Islamist group breached the heavily fortified border, resulting in a violent onslaught that claimed the lives of more than 1,400 people, the majority of whom were civilians. 

In retaliation, Israel launched an extensive bombing campaign in Gaza, causing widespread destruction and leading to a death toll of at least 2,670 people, predominantly civilians.

US President’s Stance and Warning:

US President Joe Biden emphasized the need to take action against extremists but cautioned that Israel’s occupation of Gaza would be a “big mistake.” 

The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, works to prevent a broader regional crisis.

Mounting Concerns and Warnings:

The Arab League and African Union have warned that an Israeli invasion could lead to “a genocide of unprecedented proportions.” 

UN Chief Antonio Guterres has expressed grave concerns about the region teetering on the brink of an abyss.
