Scott Edwards, the captain of the Netherlands cricket team, expressed his pride in his team’s remarkable victory over South Africa in a recent World Cup match. 

He revealed that the team had set their sights on reaching the semi-finals from the start of the tournament.

As the only non-Test playing nation in the competition, the Netherlands achieved a significant upset by defeating the previously unbeaten South Africa. 

Their victory comes a year after beating the Proteas in the T20 World Cup.

Captain’s Key Role:

Scott Edwards, the captain, played a crucial role with an unbeaten score of 78, guiding his team to victory. His leadership and performance earned him the title of “player of the match.”

Before the tournament, the Netherlands team aimed to secure a spot in the semi-finals. Defeating strong teams like South Africa was vital to achieving this goal.

Despite a challenging start that saw the Netherlands at 82-5 in the 21st over, Edwards built a crucial partnership with Roelof van der Merwe, adding 64 runs quickly. 

Aryan Dutt’s powerful performance with three sixes contributed to their competitive total of 245-8.

Edwards spoke highly of his partnership with Roelof van der Merwe, highlighting their collaboration and the entertaining style of play they bring to the team.

Van der Merwe, who also took two wickets in the match, played a vital role in the Netherlands’ triumph.
