M42 Launches Med42: An Open-Access Clinical LLM for Healthcare

M42, a global tech-enabled healthcare network, has unveiled Med42, an innovative open-access Clinical Large Language Model (LLM) designed to set new standards for ethical artificial intelligence in healthcare.
A Powerful Generative AI Model:
Med42 is a 70-billion parameter generative AI model that promises to revolutionize the healthcare sector and directly affect patient care outcomes.
This advanced AI model assists healthcare professionals, simplifying complex medical queries and aiding in the development of personalized treatment plans based on a patient’s medical history.
It accelerates decision-making for doctors, assists pharmacists in dosage decisions, and supports scientists in efficiently reviewing medical literature.
Remarkably, Med42 has achieved an impressive 72% score on the United States Medical Licensing Examination Sample Exam questions, surpassing larger closed models.
Collaborative Development:
Med42 was developed by a dedicated team in Abu Dhabi, with contributions from experts at Cerebras and Core42. The Mohamed Bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence validated the model’s accuracy.
Dr. Shaddab Khan, Director of AI and Applied Sciences at G42, the parent company of M42, noted that Med42 is one of the few open-sourced AI language models to pass the USMLE, placing it ahead of many larger closed models.
Advancing Access to Healthcare Knowledge:
Hasan Jasem Al Nowais, Managing Director and Group CEO of M42, emphasized that Med42 will accelerate global access to healthcare knowledge, demonstrating M42’s commitment to transforming the healthcare sector.
He also highlighted the UAE’s growing prominence in the global generative AI space. He expressed gratitude for support from the Abu Dhabi Department of Health and the broader technology ecosystem in Abu Dhabi.
A Platform for Collaboration:
Ashish Koshy, Group Chief Operating Officer of M42, highlighted that Med42 is a tool and a platform for collaboration.
M42 aims to drive global innovation in AI for healthcare, enabling experts worldwide to refine and expand the model’s applications in various medical domains.
Partnerships with technology leaders, including Cerebras, are crucial in bringing this vision to life and achieving long-term transformative objectives.
