Luis Manuel Díaz was abducted at gunpoint, along with his wife, in a harrowing incident on Saturday. While the kidnappers left the player’s mother behind in a car, they forcibly took away his father, creating a distressing and uncertain situation.

The authorities have responded to the crisis with urgency, deploying hundreds of police officers and soldiers in an effort to secure the safe release of Luis Manuel Díaz.

Initial Suspicions and a Change in Assessment

Initially, the police had indicated that a criminal gang was likely responsible for the abduction. 

However, on Thursday, a government delegation involved in peace talks with a rebel group revealed that they possessed “official knowledge” that the kidnapping had been executed by “a unit belonging to the ELN,” shedding new light on the situation.
