Youth Participation in Climate Action

During COP28, Kenyan children took a proactive stance on climate change by planting a million trees, amplifying their voices in the fight against climate change and promoting improved air quality.

Initiative Details

The Green Rising initiative united heads of state, leaders from the Unicef Generation Unlimited program, COP28 Youth Climate Champion, and UAE Minister of Community Development, Shamma Al Mazrui. The collaboration aims to empower millions of young people globally at the grassroots level, fostering action to counteract climate change.

Kenya’s Tree-Planting Endeavor

Kenya’s initiative granted locals a holiday in November to plant 100 million trees, aligning with the government’s broader objective of planting 15 billion trees over the next decade. 

This monumental effort showcases the significant involvement of young people, offering them a tangible means of engaging with environmental concerns.
