IPL Auction: Set to Take Place in Dubai on December 19

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to make history as it conducts its first-ever auction overseas. 

ESPNCricinfo reported that the IPL auction will be held in Dubai on December 19, marking a significant milestone for the popular cricket league.

Clash with India’s South Africa Tour:

Notably, the IPL auction is scheduled to coincide with the second One Day International (ODI) of India’s tour of South Africa, set for December 19 at Gqeberha, South Africa. 

This clash adds an exciting dimension to the cricket calendar.

Franchise Player Retentions:

Before the auction, the 10 IPL franchises have until November 15 to submit their lists of retained and released players. 

Once this process is complete, the auction pool will be finalized in early December, setting the stage for a high-stakes auction.

UAE’s Role in IPL:

The UAE, particularly Dubai, is no stranger to hosting IPL events. In 2014, a portion of the tournament was held in the UAE. 

Subsequently, the UAE hosted the entire IPL in 2020 and part of it in 2021. 

This underlines the strong cricket connection between India and the UAE, making Dubai an apt choice for this groundbreaking IPL auction.
