Fatima bint Mubarak Center at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi Marks Successful First Year of Cancer Treatment

In March last year, the Fatima bint Mubarak Center at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi commenced its operations, aiming to provide state-of-the-art cancer care to patients in the UAE and the wider region. Now, after a year of operation, the center celebrates a milestone achievement of treating over 3,000 cancer patients, setting a benchmark for personalized and multidisciplinary cancer care.

The center, inaugurated by Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, offers a comprehensive range of services covering screening, diagnostic testing, advanced radiation treatments, and precision cellular therapies. Utilizing cutting-edge technology such as generative AI, virtual reality, augmented reality, and predictive analytics, the center ensures accuracy and effectiveness in healthcare interventions, contributing significantly to the global fight against cancer.

Dr. Stephen Grobmyer, chair of the Oncology Institute at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, expressed pride in the center’s achievements, emphasizing its commitment to advancing cancer care in the region. He highlighted the collaborative efforts that have strengthened the center’s multidisciplinary approach to combating cancer, underscoring the importance of teamwork in achieving excellence in healthcare.

Throughout its inaugural year, the Fatima bint Mubarak Center has recorded impressive statistics, including over 30,000 clinic visits, 6,000 radiation treatments, 6,500 chemotherapy infusions, and 7,000 imaging studies. These numbers reflect the center’s dedication to providing accessible and high-quality care to cancer patients, catering to their diverse needs and treatment requirements.

One of the center’s key technological solutions is adaptive radiotherapy, which leverages AI and machine learning to adjust treatment plans in real-time based on daily changes in patient anatomy. This innovative approach enhances treatment accuracy and minimizes risks associated with radiation therapy, ensuring optimal outcomes for patients undergoing cancer treatment.

Additionally, the center offers radioembolization and Tare-Y90 therapy, a minimally invasive targeted therapy that utilizes radioactive particles to destroy cancer cells in the liver. This cutting-edge treatment option provides patients with improved quality of life and extended survival rates, offering hope and relief to individuals battling liver cancer.

In early 2024, the Fatima bint Mubarak Center introduced high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU), a revolutionary non-surgical procedure for prostate cancer patients. This minimally invasive alternative to traditional treatment methods represents a significant advancement in cancer care, providing patients with a safer and more comfortable treatment option.

Dr. Grobmyer reiterated the center’s commitment to patient-centered care, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing the well-being of patients and their families. Inspired by the vision of UAE leadership, the center aims to not only treat cancer but also contribute to shaping the future of medical care through continuous innovation and breakthroughs in cancer treatment.

Within its first year of operation, the Fatima bint Mubarak Center has garnered global recognition, receiving a three-year accreditation from the Joint Commission International (JCI). This accreditation underscores the center’s adherence to rigorous standards of quality and safety in healthcare delivery, affirming its position as a leader in cancer treatment and care.

As the center looks ahead to the future, it remains committed to its mission of providing exceptional cancer care to patients and driving advancements in oncology research and treatment. With continued dedication and innovation, the Fatima bint Mubarak Center aims to further elevate the standard of cancer care in the UAE and beyond, offering hope and healing to individuals affected by cancer.
