UN Chief Criticizes Security Council’s Geostrategic Divisions:

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, addressing the Doha Forum, criticized the Security Council’s inability to provide solutions, citing geopolitical divisions. A recent US veto thwarted a ceasefire resolution, deepening concerns about the ongoing humanitarian crisis.

Aid groups warned of an “apocalyptic” situation in Gaza, with the UN humanitarian agency reporting a significant decrease in aid deliveries. Over 17,700 people, predominantly women and children, have lost their lives in the conflict, while 1.9 million out of 2.4 million Gazans are displaced.

UNICEF Reports Nearly One Million Displaced Children:

UNICEF stated that nearly one million children have been forcibly displaced, facing dire conditions in overcrowded areas without adequate resources. Restrictions on aid delivery compound the challenges, posing a severe threat to the well-being of children.

Israeli forces targeted Hamas military sites and underground tunnel shafts, with the Israeli army claiming over 250 terror targets struck in 24 hours. The conflict has led to the detainment of Palestinian men and boys in Beit Lahia, while the Israeli army chief urged intensified efforts against Hamas.

Regional Impact and Threats:

The conflict in Gaza raises concerns about a wider regional conflagration. Houthi rebels in Yemen threatened to attack vessels heading to Israeli ports, while Hezbollah exchanged cross-border fire with Israel. The UN peacekeeping force in southern Lebanon reported an incident without casualties.
