Dubai metro “Route 2020” opens its doors to passengers from 1 January 2021 says Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority on Saturday. The Route 2020 is the extension of Dubai Metro on the Red Line to Expo 2020 Dubai.
Route 2020 will begin its journey from the Jebel Ali Station to the Al Furjan Station coming back with 6 trains per hour. The waiting time between each train is estimated to be ten minutes. The complete time carried for the journey between the Jebel Ali and Al Furjan stations is estimated to be six minutes.
The operation will cover only four stations at its primary stage. These four stations include the Jebel Ali (interchange station), The Gardens, Discovery Gardens, and Al Furjan Stations. These four stations are also elevated stations. The foremost is the Jebel Ali Station which is an interchange station with the Red Line.
The second station in operation is The Gardens station. This station will cover 8100 square metres in area and extend around 168 metres in length. The station has the capacity to serve 6770 riders in an hour during peak times and around 125,000 riders per day.
Discovery Gardens is the third station of Route 2020. This station encircles an area of around 8600 square metres and extends upto168 metres in length. It can accommodate 6770 riders per hour in peak times and 125,000 riders during a day.
Route 2020 has a great capacity to serve 46,000 riders per hour in both directions. Thus, It means that around 23,000 riders can travel per hour per direction.
As per report, its is expected that the Expo Station will serve about 35,000 regular visitors of Expo during weekdays. The number of visitors can also increase to 47,000 daily visitors on the weekends.
