In the past, you have heard about superheroes, now meet our very own Emirati Batman- Khalifa Salem Al Ghafri. He is thirty-three years old, and his extraordinary feats fill people with admiration and sometimes leave them awestruck.
Popularly known as the man with the orange wings, Al Ghafri flies off the UAEs highest peak in his wingsuit with unusual regularity.
Many travel enthusiasts only dream to trek the highest mountain in the UAE- Jebel Jais in Ras Al Khaimah. But, defying gravity and all other age-old myths, Al Ghafri has flown off the peak more than 1,900 times.
He has flown in a wingsuit from the highest peak of the UAE five to six times a week for more than 1,900 times. Almost all of his flying ventures are off the Jebel Jais, he sad in a statement.
Ras Al Khaimah Ruler to sponsor the event.
Under the sponsorship of His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, Al Ghafri is preparing to organize the first world wingsuit flying festival.
Al Ghafri, with six years of experience in wingsuit flying, will now be hosting other fellow wingsuit flyers in the festival to feel a new high.
Flying off Jebel Jais is an exciting and overwhelming experience. This is my driving force to organize a wingsuit flying festival, he added.
When asked about some tips for the enthusiastic flyers around the world, he said, I decide the jump accurately and with the help of laser technology, I carefully choose the landing site. When I approach a mountain ridge, I quickly move my head and legs to avoid the collision. You have to master these skills, which takes years of serious practice. Al Ghafri said.
For the event, authorities are planning to build a special platform on the top of Jebel Jais. A thirty-minute preparation time is scheduled before each jump.
In this upcoming event, the UAE will witness world wingsuit flying champions competing for the top spot. Al Ghafri added.
