Abu Dhabi Savi Cluster Attracts Key Players in Autonomous Transportation

Abu Dhabi’s Smart and Autonomous Vehicle Industry (Savi) cluster has made headlines with the inclusion of major players in the autonomous transportation sector, announced by the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO).
Joby Aviation: The Californian-based air taxi company known for developing electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft for commercial passenger service, Joby Aviation, intends to be part of the Savi cluster.
They plan to support the development of technologies that will enable autonomous flight for their innovative aircraft.
Joby Aviation, set to launch commercial passenger services in 2025, aims to collaborate with ADIO and various stakeholders in the Abu Dhabi ecosystem to realize their worldwide vision of efficient air taxi services.
WeRide: China’s pioneering driverless solutions company, WeRide, is establishing its regional headquarters in Abu Dhabi as part of the Savi cluster.
WeRide, recognized for its Level 4 autonomous driving technologies, will work towards transforming autonomous driving into tangible industry applications.
Their focus on affordability and accessibility aligns with Abu Dhabi’s ambitions to promote smart and autonomous vehicles globally.
Notably, WeRide was granted the first national license for self-driving vehicles in the UAE, further solidifying its position in the region.
Marakeb Technologies: Marakeb Technologies, a local autonomous systems provider with a strong track record in developing aerial, ground, and marine solutions for the past 15 years, will become the first anchor company to specialize in maritime applications at Savi.
Marakeb will be able to utilize the cluster’s sea testing zone in Mussafah Port for testing new technologies.
This move enhances the cluster’s maritime capabilities and boosts the growth of related industries within and beyond the Savi cluster, contributing to the local industrial base and knowledge economy.
Badr Al-Olama, Director General of ADIO, emphasized the Savi cluster’s immediate launch and global attraction, which aims to drive innovation and progress in autonomous technologies across the air, land, and sea transportation sectors.
The Savi cluster in Masdar City offers advanced facilities and supportive services within a conducive regulatory environment, ensuring that companies developing cutting-edge technologies for mobility applications can thrive.
To shape the future of smart and autonomous vehicles, ADIO collaborates with key regulators, including the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development, General Civil Aviation Authority, Integrated Transport Centre, and Abu Dhabi Maritime.
This strategic move by Abu Dhabi is a significant step forward in the global autonomous transportation industry, fostering innovation and collaboration to create a brighter and more autonomous future for the transportation and mobility sector.
