Abu Dhabi Introduces Modern and Sleek Automated Rapid Transit (ART) Service

Abu Dhabi City has unveiled its modern Automated Rapid Transit (ART) service, bringing cutting-edge urban mobility to the capital’s streets.
Residents witnessed the debut of this innovative three-carriage, air-conditioned electric vehicle over the weekend.
Futuristic Transport Solution:
The ART service, often described as a fusion of a bus and a tram, prominently features the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) markings under the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT).
It initially launched on Yas Island and Saadiyat Island and has now extended its service to the mainland.
This eco-friendly and emission-free service operates between Reem Mall and Marina Mall via Zayed the First Street (Electra Street) as part of Abu Dhabi’s forward-looking smart mobility project. The ARTs serve the city on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
Enhanced Passenger Experience:
The innovative electric vehicles can accommodate up to 200 passengers and offer a comfortable and sustainable mode of transportation.
Passengers can enjoy plush seats, standing passenger straps, panoramic windows, and digital notifications of stops. The ART seamlessly navigates lanes like a regular public transport bus.
Dedicated Stops and Markings:
Some ART stops have designated slots, while others use regular public bus stations. To facilitate passenger awareness, pavement stickers mark the stops.
Additionally, an ART livery has been displayed at bus stops to educate commuters about the city’s latest smart mobility offering.
Residents have expressed surprise and enthusiasm about the ART service, noting its resemblance to Dubai’s tram system while operating without dedicated tracks or infrastructure changes on the streets.
Commuters appreciate the convenience and sustainability of this new transportation option.
Urban Connectivity:
The ARTs currently connect key destinations, including Reem Mall, Marina Mall, Galleria Al Maryah Island, Marina Square, Sheikh Hazza Bin Sultan Mosque, Qasr Al Hosn, Khalidiya Park, Abu Dhabi Energy Centre, Sheikha Fatima Park, Corniche, NMC Specialty and LLH hospitals, and hotels such as City Seasons Al Hamra, Sheraton Al Khalidiya, and Rixos Marina Abu Dhabi.
Service Timings and Tracking:
The ART service operates from 10 am to 2 pm at Reem Mall and from 11 am to 3 pm at Marina Mall on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Passengers can track live timings using Google Maps and the official Darbi app.
QR Code Access:
Commuters can scan the QR code on the ARTs or at select bus stops to access further details, updates, service timings, and new destinations.
The introduction of the ART service represents a significant step in advancing Abu Dhabi’s urban transportation infrastructure and promoting sustainable mobility in the city.
