Abu Dhabi Artist Creates Heartfelt Artwork at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City

In a heartwarming display of creativity and celebration, Abu Dhabi-based Lebanese artist Pierre Abboud has unveiled a heart-shaped artwork crafted from recyclable materials at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC). This artistic endeavor coincides with SKMC’s recognition as a center of excellence for pediatric cardiac surgery by the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi.

The initiative formed part of a special evening of activities organized by the hospital to mark its prestigious designation. Children, parents, pediatric cardiologists, and cardiac surgeons came together to witness the unveiling of Abboud’s creation and partake in the festivities.

Abboud, known for his innovative use of recycled materials in his artwork, took the lead in crafting most of the 2.5m X 1.6m artwork. However, in a touching gesture, he left the bottom portion unfinished, inviting children to contribute to the piece. Speaking about his inspiration, Abboud expressed, “Art is my passion. SKMC received this designation as the center of excellence for pediatric cardiac surgery. The heart is a sign of love, passion, and affection. So, I made this heart dedicated to children. I wanted to bring a smile to their faces.”

The artwork, made from a variety of recyclable materials including paper, wood, cardboard, cans, stationery, and toys, embodies Abboud’s commitment to sustainability and creativity. Having resided in the UAE for two decades, Abboud’s work reflects his deep connection to the local community and his desire to spread joy through art.

SKMC, a prominent healthcare institution under the umbrella of Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA), has been at the forefront of pediatric cardiac care. Dr. Benedict Raj Rajkumar, a consultant pediatric cardiac surgeon at SKMC, underscored the significance of the hospital’s designation as a center of excellence. He emphasized the expertise and dedication of the medical professionals at SKMC in performing complex surgeries on newborns and children with congenital heart conditions.

The designation of centers of excellence by the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi signifies the highest standards of medical care and service delivery. SKMC’s recognition reflects its commitment to providing comprehensive healthcare services with a focus on pediatric cardiac care.

The unveiling of Abboud’s artwork at SKMC highlights the intersection of art, community, and healthcare. Through his creative expression, Abboud aims to inspire hope and convey the message that beauty can be found in unexpected places. The collaboration between Abboud and SKMC serves as a testament to the power of art in uplifting spirits and fostering a sense of community.

As SKMC continues to excel in pediatric cardiac surgery, its designation as a center of excellence reaffirms its position as a leader in healthcare innovation and patient care. The hospital’s ongoing commitment to excellence ensures that pediatric patients receive the highest quality of care and support.

In conclusion, Abboud’s heartfelt artwork at SKMC serves as a symbol of hope, love, and resilience, embodying the spirit of the hospital’s commitment to providing exceptional healthcare services to the community.
